Granby was the only place in Quebec's Eastern Townships where we saw unilingual English Stop signs. Usually it is unilingual French which makes it even harder to understand how our waitress could claim not to speak English. This sort of thing made the news, what with a provincial election going on when someone inadvertently asserted that English was an official language in Quebec. It is not and Quebecers are inexplicably proud of this.

This has to be the next to best beer of this trip - I am not going to surpass La Vie de Château for some time.

This is a great place - very welcoming. Even though the bartender did not speak English we figured things out with our fractured French. There is no kitchen. You can bring your own food, there is even a microwave there. Even better, the peanuts and pretzels are free.

555 takes its name from the tale of the murder of Peter Lazier. It centres around a bungled robbery of a farmer for $555 from the sale of hops. It led to murder and, possibly, a bungled trial verdict.

KBC seemed to be going downhill a while back but they have returned to top form. I hear tell a group of employees took over. The peanut pasta is gone but that was perhaps inevitable. I know people also miss the ghetto wings.

Eviltwin appears to have relocated to New York.

There have been a couple of developments at the Black Creek Historic Brewery. Their brewmaster, Ed, has found another job after a number of years with Black Creek. Congratulations must go out to Ed but it has to be said that I will miss him. Years ago I served for a day as his apprentice and we have never missed an opportunity since to exchange pleasantries whenever I would visit the village for a growler or two of his beer.
Predictably, perhaps, Black Creek subsequently announced that they will not be selling any more growlers this year once their current supply runs out and the scheduled specialty releases have been cancelled. I expect the position will be filled in short order by a graduate of the Niagara College brewing program but until then I will miss the beers.
