August 24, 2018

236/2457) Microbrasserie Le Grimoire Resto-Pub, Granby, Quebec:  La Vie de Château by Microbrasserie Le Grimoire of Quebec: ***; 7%, 20 ibu; an amber brewed with dark rum; nose is sweet caramel and rum; sweet malt and caramel, hint of berries, vanilla, nearly cream soda like sweet notes;  remarkable; one of the best beers I have ever tried;

237/2458) Microbrasserie Le Grimoire Resto-Pub: La Noire Soeur by Microbrasserie Le Grimoire of Quebec:  **1/2; 5%, 20 ibu black chocolate beer; espresso and sweet chocolate nose; roasted malt, chocolate and dark coffee;

Granby was the only place in Quebec's Eastern Townships where we saw unilingual English Stop signs.  Usually it is unilingual French which makes it even harder to understand how our waitress could claim not to speak English.  This sort of thing made the news, what with a provincial election going on when someone inadvertently asserted that English was an official language in Quebec.  It is not and Quebecers are inexplicably proud of this.

238/2459) Microbrasserie Le Grimoire Resto-Pub:  Le Malt Aimée by Microbrasserie Le Grimoire of Quebec: *; a 7.0%, 38 ibu IPA; very malty, floral, botanical;

239/2460) Les Brasseurs De Temps, Gatineaux, Québec:  Trois Portages by Les Brasseurs du Temps of Quebec:  **1/2; a 9% Tripel; nose of peaches and sweet orange; flavours remind me of Cointreau; an unusual tripel but very nice;

This has to be the next to best beer of this trip - I am not going to surpass La Vie de Château for some time.

August 23, 2018

233/2454) Microbrasserie Coaticook, Coaticook, Quebec:  Baldwin India Pale Ale by Microbrasserie Coaticook of Quebec:  **; 6%, 45 ibu; dry grapefruit notes; bitter after taste;

It turns out this named for the mayor of Coaticook.

234/2455) Le Brouemont, Bromont, Quebec:  India Pale Ale by Le Brouemont of Quebec:  **1/2; 6.5%; nose is citrusy with pine; piney, resiny flavours;

235/2456) Le Brouemont:  Russian Imperial Stout by Le Brouemont of Quebec:  **1/2; 9%; nose of espresso, vanilla, alcohol; roasted malt, sweet vanilla and espresso flavours with a hint of alcohol at the finish; an outstanding RIS, the best beer of this vacation so far;

Based only on the table nearest us, Quebec does not have Smart Serve legislation.

August 22, 2018

229/2450) Microbrasserie Maltéus, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec: NEIPA Double IPA by Microbrasserie Maltéus of Quebec:  **; 7.5%, 85 ibu; brewed with Simcoe, Amarillo, Mosaic and Citra hops;  bitter, earthy, resinous nose; pine, resin, and a hint of citrus flavours; I found it not quite so not so New England-ish;

This is a great place - very welcoming.  Even though the bartender did not speak English we figured things out with our fractured French.  There is  no kitchen.  You can bring your own food, there is even a microwave there.  Even better, the peanuts and pretzels are free.

230/2251) Microbrasserie Maltéus:  IPA by Microbrasserie Maltéus of Quebec:  **1/2; 6.0%, 55 ibu; brewed with Rakau and Galaxy hops; citrusy, tropical nose; pine and citrus flavours;

What I came to marvel at was how many very small towns in Quebec boast their own very fine brewpubs.

231/2451) Microbrasserie La Memphré, Magog, Quebec:  Double Mention by Microbrasserie La Memphré of  Quebec:  **1/2; 8%, 80 ibu; translates as double chin; resiny, fruity;

La Memphré is a monster said to live in nearby Lake Memphremagog, akin to the Loch Ness monster among others.

232/2453) Microbrasserie La Memphré:  Distorsion by Bières Jukebox of Quebec:  **; a 7% American IPA; grapefruit nose; resiny, piney flavours;

This was a guest tap or, rather, a fut invité.

August 21, 2018

225/2446) 555 Brewing Company, Picton:  Patchbottom Boot by 555 Brewing Company of Ontario:  **1/2; 8.2%, 67 ibu; an Imperial IPA brewed with El Dorado hops and Amarillo hop hash; tropical and grapefruit nose; mango and grapefruit flavours;

555 takes its name from the tale of the murder of Peter Lazier.  It centres around a bungled robbery of a farmer for $555 from the sale of hops.  It led to murder and, possibly, a bungled trial verdict.

226/2447) 555 Brewing Company:  Long Black by 555 Brewing Company of Ontario:  *1/2;  4.5%, 50 ibu; a black ale brewed with Cherry Bomb Coffee; soda-like mouth feel; roasted malt nose; roast and coffee notes;

The beers take their names from aspects of the investigation and trial.  George Lowder's gravestone reads, "Hanged.  1884.  Unjustly."

227/2448) 555 Brewing Company:  Foot Print IPA by 555 Brewing Company of Ontario:  **; 7.2%, 60 ibu; a West Coast style IPA brewed with North American Noble hops; grapefruit notes against a strong malt backdrop;

These were from a  tasting flight.  It is a great place with a pizza oven serving fresh baked personal size pizzas.  The brewmaster is formerly of Barley Days.

228/2449) Barley Days Brewing, Picton:  Chinook Pale Ale by Barley Days Brewing of Ontario:  *1/2; 5%, 30 ibu; malty with a mild hop bite; minerally notes;

The buck-a-beer brew is not available until Monday.

August 20, 2018

223/2444) Lake On The Mountain Brewing, Glenora or Prince Edward depending on who you ask:  Onokenoga Pale Ale by Lake On The Mountain Brewing of Ontario:  **; 4.9%; Onokenoga is what natives called Lake On The Mountain; brewed with Idaho 7 hops;  a solid traditional North American IPA; nose is very fresh and malty;  strong malt base with herbal notes;

You can't beat their "patio" out back among the trees.

224/2445) The Acoustic Grill, Picton:  Citra Coast IPA by Prince Eddy's Brewing Company of Ontario:  **; dry citrusy nose; citrus and pineapple flavours;

August 19, 2018

220/2441) Kingston Brewing Company, Kingston:  Pobody's Nerfect Summer IPA by Sawdust City of Ontario:  **; 7%; opaque, citrus nose; New England Style; dry citrus flavours with a bitter after taste;

KBC seemed to be going downhill a while back but they have returned to top form.  I hear tell a group of employees took over.  The peanut pasta is gone but that was perhaps inevitable.  I know people also miss the ghetto wings.

221/2442) Kingston Brewing Company:  Imperial Biscotti Chili Hazelnut Break by Eviltwin Brewing of New York, U.S.A.:  **1/2; 11.5%; brewed with hazelnut, vanilla and chili; chili, coffee, nutty nose;  rich sweet roasty heat kicks in toward finish with hazelnut prominent throughout;

Eviltwin appears to have relocated to New York.

222/2443:  Stone City Ales, Kingston:  Otherside Anniversary IPA by Stone City Ales of Ontario:  **; 6..8%; citrus and stone fruit nose; citrus and zest flavours; a bit New England-ish;

August 18, 2018

There have been a couple of developments at the Black Creek Historic Brewery.  Their brewmaster, Ed, has found another job after a number of years with Black Creek.  Congratulations must go out to Ed but it has to be said that I will miss him.  Years ago I served for a day as his apprentice and we have never missed an opportunity since to exchange pleasantries whenever I would visit the village for a growler or two of his beer.

Predictably, perhaps, Black Creek subsequently announced that they will not be selling any more growlers this year once their current supply runs out and the scheduled specialty releases have been cancelled.  I expect the position will be filled in short order by a graduate of the Niagara College brewing program but until then I will miss the beers.

August 17, 2018

219/2440) Home: Northern Nectar Honey Pale Ale, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and Yukon Brewing of Yukon Territory; 5.4%; brewed with wheat and honey; pours clear; very odd, it's a bit of a mish-mash; sweet honey and bitter hop nose; sweet honey and caramel notes, Asian tea notes with a bitter hoppy finish;

This is the last entry in this year's Across The Nation Collaboration.

August 16, 2018

217/2438) The 3 Brewers, Heartland:  Moose Velvet by The 3 Brewers of Ontario:  **; 6.1%, 60 ibu; a Thursday evening cask; billed as an American IPA, this is their regular IPA with coffee (espresso), spruce and American oak;  espresso is very forward in the nose;  warm coffee notes set against bitter hops;

218/2439) The 3 Brewers, Heartland:  Raspberry Sour by The 3 Brewers of Ontario:  *1/2; 3.7%, 6 ibu; their newest Feature beer; brewed with lactobacillus and raspberry puree; raspberry nose; very tart with fresh raspberry flavours;

August 15, 2018

In a letter dated the 13th of August, contract brewer Silly Sir Brewing has announced that it is ending its business relationship with Cool Brewing in reaction to the latter's participation in the buck-a-beer scheme.

Craft beer types are now snubbing people.  I know I am impressed. Any day now I will read of buck-a-beer sellers being refused service at cafes.

August 14, 2018

"The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it." - Chinese Proverb

Cool Brewing of Etobicoke has announced that they are joining the ranks of the buck-a-beer crowd.  Cue the hysteria.  I might give this one a try as well if I can buy just the one.

August 13, 2018

216/2437) Home:  Midnight Ember, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and NWT brewing of the North West Territories:  *1/2; 6.0%;  a smoked stout; roasty nose; opens sweet, nearly sarsaparilla-like with notes of roast and chocolate;  acrid smokey finish; not the worst smoked beer ever;

August 12, 2018

215/2436) Home: Ruby Sunset Pomegranate Sour Ale, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and Fuggles and Warlock Craftwork also from British Columbia:  *; 6.0%; brewed with the usual four plus wheat and pomegranate juice;  pours a translucent amber; tart, funky, fruity nose;  very tart and tangy with fruit emerging towards the finish;  it is getting hard to tell one sour from another which is often a sign of mediocrity;

August 11, 2018

214/2435) Home:  Red Rivers of Rye, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and Blindman Brewing of Alberta:  *1/2; a 6.5% Red Rye Sour;  in addition to the usual four it is brewed with wheat and rye; pours clear red/orange; tart with a snap of rye and notes of cherries;  not so bad for a sour;

August 10, 2018

213/2434) Home:  Put A Cherry On Hop, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and Rebellion Brewing Co. of Saskatchewan:  **; a 6.0% Cherry Milkshake IPA;  brewed with the usual four ingredients plus cherry juice, oats, lactose and vanilla; sweet cherry pie nose;  tastes like cherry pie, too, and there is a bit of hopinesss, especially at the finish;  a remarkably successful milkshake IPA;

August 9, 2018

As promised during the election campaign "Buck-a-beer" is back, at least in theory.  A better way to put it might be buck-a-beer is no longer outlawed.

I didn't drink it back then and I wasn't expecting to drink it now but with Barley Days announcing they are on board I might give it a try.  We have been there a number of times in the past and we liked their brews.  It sounds more like a one-off but the publicity can't hurt.

Other craft brewers have been quick to denounce this and I'm not sure why.  I never imagined it was created with them in mind in the first place.  It comes across as snobbery of the first order.  One would think the purveyors of  rent beers like "Red Leaf Lager" or "Anitgravity Light Lager" would be a bit meeker.

What's worse, it has drawn attention to the taxpayer largess many craft brewers benefit from.  They don't seem in a hurry to return any of this dirty, unprincipled money, either.

It is similar to later closing in my view.  After a show at the Rose Theatre I was surprised to arrive in time for last call at Tracks Brewpub at 11PM.  Roger said he was happy he was allowed stay open but he was concerned that in doing so he might attract the sort of crowd that would discourage types like me from visiting.

August 8, 2018

After a successful event last year, Witchstock 2018 has been announced.  The shuttle remains but this time out they have done away with the admission plus tokens system.  For the price of admission your samples are included without lining up to buy tokens.  That admission, though is $120.00(!).  It seems quite a lot and I don't get tired of pointing out that I can walk into Birreria Volo or C'est What to name but two and have over 25 choices on tap or cask.  Mind, they did very well without me last year and I hope and expect they will continue to do so.

August 6, 2018

211/2432) Home:  Ramswool by Brothers' Brewing Company of Ontario:  **; a 4% Oatmeal stout;  dry coffee nose; uncommonly thin mouthfeel for the style; bitter dark coffee notes;

212/2433) Home: Half Way IPA, a collaboration between Central CIty Brewing of British Columbia and Torque Brewing of Manitoba; a 6% White IPA brewed with wheat and coriander seeds; fruity Asian tea nose with citrus and tropical fruit;  I am tasting fruitiness with a touch of pine;

We are now into the western 6 pack and this is a good introduction.

August 5, 2018

209/2430) Home:  191 Fest Märzen, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and Kichesippi of Ontario:  *; a 5.4% Oktoberfest style Märzen; pours like ginger ale; sweet, mildly fruity nose with grain and cereal; grainy maltiness with sweet fruit notes;  a couple of months early perhaps but now I am looking forward to Oktoberfest menus;

The name derives from the fact that both brewmasters are 191 cm tall and keen on Märzens.

210/2431) Home: Amnesia by Brothers' Brewing Company of Ontario:  **1/2; a 9.0% Double IPA; citrus and zest nose; citrusy with notes of zest; very nice;

August 4, 2018

207/2428) Home:  Three Beasts American IPA, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and Trailway Brewing Co. of New Brunswick:  **1/2; 6.6%; brewed with oats, wheat and 3 varieties of hops; finally, a solid recognisable style; pours perfectly clear; dry Asian tea notes; astringent tea, herbal; the best of the series, so far;

208/2429) Home:  La Grande Riviere, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and Brasseurs Du Temps of Quebec:  *; a 6.5% Cranberry Belgian IPA; brewed with the usual four plus wheat and cranberry juice; nose is cranberry and floral hops; opens and finishes rather bitter; strong cranberry flavors with yeast and a cranberry aftertaste;

Regrettably, we are back to stunt beers.

Tuesday 14 August 2018

August 3, 2018

206/2427) Home:  Ancient Grains Saison, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and 2 Crows Brewing of Nova Scotia; 6.6%; brewed with rye, sunflower seeds and spelt;  honeyed, yeasty nose;  flavours of grain, cereal, honey and yeast - a bit peppery, musty as well;

August 2, 2018

205/2426) The 3 Brewers, Heartland:  Spontaneous Human Consumption by The 3 Brewers of Ontario:  *1/2; 7.3%, 45 ibu; Thursday cask; their Milkshake IPA with guava, habanero peppers, Jarrylo hops and Belma hops;  nose is guava; opens similarly then moderate heat kicks in and lasts through a lingering finish;

July 30, 2018

203/2424) Home:  Red Racer Raspberry by Central City Brewing of British Columbia:  **;  3.5%;  from their Low Rider series, not the Across The Nation series;  brewed with raspberry juice, lactose, lactic acid and vanilla; raspberry nose; opens with fresh raspberry yielding to sweetness from the lactose and finishes with tart raspberry flavours;

204/2425) Home:  Singing Sands, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and Upstreet Craft Brewing of Prince Edward Island:  *1/2; 5%; a  salted caramel lager; brewed with the usual four ingredients and brown sugar, lactose, cocoa, sea salt and vanilla;  malty brown sugar nose; sweet cocoa and caramel flavours;  sea salt asserts itself at the finish; I could do without the salt, otherwise very fine indeed;

July 29, 2018

201/2422) Home:  Pale Al by Great Lakes Brewery of Ontario:  **; 4.8%, 22 ibu; named for an employee Alexandra or "Al"; a Brut pale ale from their 7 Barrel Series; citrus and peach nose;  light body, citrusy, fruity;

A Brut is a very dry beer with no residual sugars.  They tend to have low bitterness and are well carbonated.  Fruity or wine like hop varieties are used most often.  An amylase, or enzyme is added to break down any remaining sugars creating the Brut style.

My wife brought this back from the brewery for me.  She doesn't think that Al, as depicted, looks particularly healthy but I know a number of people who look like this and are in the best of health.

202/2423) Home:  Me Ol' Trout, a collaboration between Central City Brewing of British Columbia and Yellow Belly Brewery & Public House of Newfoundland:  **;  a 5.2% East Coast cream ale; "as unique as the island tongue"; brewed with the usual four ingredients plus wheat and corn; pours translucent; minerally nose; sweet fruit notes take the edge of the mineral elements typical of a cream ale; surprising and very nice;

For a second year, Central City has put together an Across The Nation Collaboration.  This year I will drink from east to west.

July 28, 2018

199/2420) Home:  Stiegl Lemon Radler by Stieglbraueri of Austria:  **; 2.5%;  50% beer, 50% lemon juice;  cloudy with a lemony aroma;  lemony, malty, quite nice;

200/2421) Home:  Éphémère Strawberry & Rhubarb by Unibroue of Quebec:  **1/2; 5.5%, 11 ibu "Fruit Wheat Ale"; nose is marvellous - sweet strawberry rhubarb pie like we had recently at C'est What and when you order a dessert there that is not their Hazelnut brownie it is special; sweet with strawberries, rhubarb and yeast with a finish similar to the nose;

July 25, 2018

I forgot to mention it earlier but Stonehammer, formerly F&M Brewing, is gone.  It's a shame.  They had some nice beers and it was one of the highlights of an Ale Trail event more years ago than I care to admit.

July 22, 2018

198/2419) Home:  Ouroboros by Black Oak of Ontario:  *1/2; 4.8%, 13 ibu; a barrel aged farmhouse ale;  nose of white wine and fruit;  fruity spiced flavours;

Ouroboros is an ancient symbol of a snake eating its own tail representing infinity or wholeness.

Purchased at the brewery.

Sunday 12 August 2018

July 16, 2018

197/2418) Home:  Berliner Lime & Ginger by Collective Arts of Ontario:  *1/2; a 4.4% "lime and ginger Berlinerweisse"; brewed with barley malt, wheat malt and ginger, according to the tin - no lime is mentioned, mind regulations are lax when it comes to listing beer ingredients; lime nose;  lime overshadows all else by a large margin in the flavours;

July 14, 2018

190/2411) Birreria Volo:  Cyclope Beta by Brasserie Dunham of Quebec:  **; a 5.7%; IPA brewed with Amarillo and Ekuanot hops;  fresh, floral and citrus nose;  Asian tea, floral flavours;

Even though I was there in the afternoon, this was billed as an evening with Eloi and Brasserie Dunham.  Eloi Deit is the brewmaster for Dunham.  The owner was also on hand.

191/2412) Birreria Volo:  Cyclope Lambda by Brasserie Dunham of Quebec:  **;  a 4%; IPA brewed with El Dorado hops;  Asian tea nose; flavours of tea and tannins;

To date I have never gone to Birreria Volo for the sake of going there. It has always been for an event.  It is just a bit out of the way for me.

192/2413) Birreria Volo:  Berliner Black Raspberry by Brasserie Dunham of Quebec:  *1/2; a 4.2% Black Raspberry Berliner Weisse;  strong fresh black raspberry nose;  tart, astringent black raspberry flavours;

193/2414) Birreria Volo:  L'Ecchymose by Brasserie Dunham of Quebec:  **1/2; a 10.3% bourbon barrel aged Imperial stout with blueberries, rosemary and cocoa nibs;  brewed in collaboration with Four Hands of Missouri; strong chocolate and berry nose; dry unsweetened chocolate and blueberry with floral, herbal flavours;

From the French this translates as ecchymosis which is what someone with a degree calls a bruise.

194/2415) Birreria Volo:  Stout Imperiale Russe by Dunham Brewery of Quebec:  **1/2; a 9.0% Russian Imperial Stout;  dry, grainy roasty nose with alcohol; roasty with dark coffee and they cannot hide that alcohol; also hints of vanilla; very nice;

As per usual, these were five ounce pours at Birreria Volo.

195/2416) Thirsty and Miserable:  Laurentian Consensus by Dominion City of Ontario:  **; 6.3%; mind, it was spelled Consentus on the tap list:  brewed with Columbus, Galaxy, Citra Cryo and Mosaic Lupulin powder;  murky, swampy even; citrusy hop nose;  dry citrusy flavours;

196/2417) Thirsty and Miserable:  Big Train IPA by Left Field Brewery of Ontario:  **; 6.1%; this was in a tin; brewed with barley, wheat and oats; citrusy nose;  citrusy but no hop bitterness;

Big Train was Walter Johnson's nickname.  He was a hard throwing right hander who pitched for the Washington Senators from 1907 to 1927.  He won 417 games, of which 110 were shutouts and accumulated 3509 strikeouts.  I think the 110 shutouts is still an all time record.

If and when Left Field brews an oyster stout I hope it is named for Walter Johnson's teammate from 1924, one Oyster Joe Martina.

July 13, 2018

189/2410) Home:  Pale Wheat by Creemore Springs of Ontario:  *; 4.5%; "North American style"; no preservatives, unpasteurized; pours clear; very malty;  largely lacking the characteristics of a wheat beer, North American or otherwise;

July 12, 2018

188/2409) The 3 Brewers, Heartland:  Two Cones; One Cup:  Mango Coconut by The 3 Brewers of Ontario: **; 8%, 80 ibu; a Thursday cask; their Milkshake IPA with mango and coconut;  Justin is squeezing every bit of fun from this brew, just as he did with the Westhoek saison;  Mango is very strong to the nose though it is somewhat in the background in the flavours with the coconut at the forefront early and through to the finish;

July 11, 2018

187/2408) Home:  Pink Grapefruit Radler by Sawdust City of Ontario:  **; 3.5%; made with pink grapefruit juice and wheat; citrusy pink grapefruit nose; mild pink grapefruit flavours;

It's that bird again.

July 9, 2018

186/2407) Home:  Goose 312 Urban Wheat Ale by Goose Island Beer Co. of Ontario:  *1/2; 4.2%; brewed with barley and wheat;  dry, grainy nose; there is a hint of lemon, though if the tin had not suggested it I may have missed it;  mild berried fruit notes;  tastes a bit lagerish to me;

July 8, 2018

185/2406) Home:  Berliner Pilsner by Berliner Pilsner Brauerei GmbH of Germany:  *1/2; 5.0%; it is the genuine article - brewed in Berlin, though they do use hop extract;  nose of bitter Euro-hops, mild berries;  fruit, berries, central European hops;  a standard pilsner, nicely crafted;

July 7, 2018

184/2405) Home:  12th of Never by Lagunitas Brewing Company Inc. of California:  **1/2; 5.5%; pours clear - I wonder if it makes this an old school IPA?; herbal, floral nose; dry flavours with a hint of alcohol;

Monday 6 August 2018

July 6, 2018

183/2404) Home:  Braufactum Soleya Saison by Die Internationale Brau-Manufacturen GmbH of Germany:  *1/2; 6.5%; brewed with wheat malt and barley malt, Magnum hops and dry-hopped with Enigma hops; pours cloudy; very yeasty, peppery nose with cloves; cloves and peppery flavours;

July 5, 2018

181/2402) The 3 Brewers, Heartland:  Two Cones; One Cup:  Chocolate Strawberry by The 3 Brewers of Ontario:  *1/2; 8%, 80 ibu;  on cask;  their Milkshake IPA with cocoa nibs and pureed strawberries;  pours cloudy;  faint strawberry nose; strawberries are more prominent than the chocolate, which does add something a of a bitter edge;

182/2403) Home:  Mad & Noisy Orange Pale Ale by Creemore Springs of Ontario:  *1/2; 4.8%; grainy nose with a hint  of orange;  sweet cereal flavours with some orange but I was wishing for a dash more;

July 2, 2018

179/2400) Home:  Wonder Star Botanical Lager by Flying Monkeys of Ontario:  **; 4.5%, 14 ibu; brewed with Columbus, Tomahawk Zeus hops and dry hopped with Amarillo hops; lemony nose; lemon and herbal flavours;

180/2401) Home:  Radler by Grolsche Beerbrauwerue of The Netherlands:  **;  2.0%; flavoured with lemon and orange juice;  a very nice take on the style if a bit sweet;

The great thing about these increasingly popular Radlers is they are, by definition, "sessionable".  I still feel a bit of a twinge telling me I could be making this for myself.  After all, I don't buy those pre-made gin and tonics even though they are readily available.

July 1, 2018

177/2398) Home:  Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Radler by Dortmunder Actien-Brauwerei GmBH of Germany:  **; 50% Schöfferhofer wheat beer, 50% "grapefruit drink"; cloudy orange/red; fresh pink grapefruit nose; grapefruit and pleasant wheat beer backdrop;

A good choice for those many people I have encountered who like both Radlers and wheat beers.

178/2399) Home:  Juicebox Citrus IPA by Fourpure Brewing of England:  **1/2; 5.9%, 56 ibu; "Inspired by adventure";  brewed with fresh orange zest; citrus and zest to nose;  lovely citrus flavours and Asian tea notes;

"Brewed in London for our friends in Canada" which makes it a good pick for Dominion/Canada Day.

June 30, 2018

176/2397) Home:  Crafty Radler by Pump House of New Brunswick:  **;  4.7%; "Craft beer and fruit soda': grapefruit and tangerine flavours; strong fresh grapefruit nose; definitely soda like; grapefruit is stronger of the two flavours;

June 29, 2018

175/2396) Home:  Trooper Hallowed by Frederic Robinson Ltd. of England:  **; 6.0%; "Inspired by Belgium, made in England"; yeast and juicy plum nose;  dark sugar, plum jelly flavours;  unusual and interesting;

 According to the label, this was "Created by Iron Maiden", specifically vocalist Bruce Dickinson.
