November 23, 2020

328/3308) Home:  IPA New England by Oshlag Brasserie & Distillerie of Quebec:  **; 6.0%, 10 ibu; brewed with Chinook, Centennial and Cascade hops along with coriander and angelica seed; Oshlag uses 100% Quebec ingredients; pours hazy and golden; nose is sharp citrus with herbal notes; citrus flavours with leafy herbal notes; interesting and unusual;

The tin informs, "established 1830", "made the traditional way" and "pairs well with beer drinkers".  Strictly speaking, Bloor should be spelled with an "E" at the end if it is named after Toronto brewing pioneer Joseph Bloore but as they did when a major road was named for him, the "E" was dropped.

I am very proud of this one.

Sunday 22 November 2020

November 4, 2020

310/3290) Home:  Home and Home IPA by Bellwoods Brewery of Ontario:  **1/2; 7.8%; pours somewhere between cloudy and hazy; delicious pineapple flavours;

November 3, 2020

309/3289) Home:  Sugar Sugar House House by Bellwoods Brewery of Ontario in collaboration with The Veil Brewing Co. of Virginia, U.S.A.:  **; 8.0%;  an Imperial IPA with Ontario maple syrup;  grain bill includes rolled oats, malted oats and naked golden oats; dry hopped with Azacca, Mosaic and Vic Secret hops; the first of their REDUX series where they revisit a past collaboration;  cloudy, nearly murky; mostly tropical fruit nose; the maple syrup is very subtle, there are only hints; mostly it is fresh, tropical flavours;

October 31, 2020

306/3286) Home:  Hockey Mask Pumpkin Ale by Orange Snail Brewing of Ontario:  **; 6.5%, 19 ibu; a nice blend of spice and pumpkin;

October 30, 2020

305/3285) Home:  Canatara! by Refined Fool Brewing Co. of Sarnia:  **; 4.7%; a Berliner Weisse brewed with malted barley, malted wheat and passionfruit; the tartness comes from the fruit, not lactic acid; fruity and refreshing;

My grandparents used to take me to Canatara Park in Sarnia.  I have many fond memories of Canatara Park and of Sarnia.

October 24, 2020

300/3280) Home:  Halo Milkshake by Brewski of Sweden:  **1/2; the tin reads 4.7% but a sticker applied by the LCBO indicates 3.3% - off by a fair margin; a Berliner Weisse with raspberries and passion fruit in a tiny 330ml can; also brewed with wheat, oats, rye and lactose;  looks like a milkshake; strong, fresh raspberry nose and flavours; tartness from fresh berries against a backdrop of fresh passion fruit; I was not expecting to like it this much;

It was quite the adventure to acquire this.  I believed them when they said that ordering before noon guaranteed same day delivery, between 4 and 9 PM.  I received the e-mail informing me my order was on its way and I waited.  Then I waited some more.  At 9PM I left the office for home.

I learned later that the order had mistakenly gone to the next day courier for areas outside the Express delivery zone.  My order finally came after 7PM the next day.  I waited some eight hours in total.  Considering my hourly rate it would have made more sense to drive to the subway and pick it up in person at their Dundas Street location.

I received a voice mail several days later from the "Rest of Ontario" courier informing me that they had attempted delivery but no one was there.  Even though Collective Arts may not have merited it, I let them know there was a duplicate order out there and they had it returned.  There is scant risk of me ordering on-line from Collective Arts in the foreseeable future.
